During 2003, analysis showed that a number of industries were experiencing labour shortages while others were undergoing strong employment growth. Both cases presented potentially significant job opportunities. In light of this, a number of specifically targeted Industry programmes have been developed. One of these is the Mature Age Industry Strategy (MAIS), which provides small grant funding to cooperative industry initiatives that improve recruitment and retention measures for mature age job seekers and workers. Information on Current MAIS projects is available.
The Facts and Figures page contains some useful information broken down by industry regarding mature age employment in specific industries and the impact of the skills shortage.
