Never too late to change careers

At the age of 45, Elizabeth Kowalski decided to change her career track by moving into aged care services.

A local Job Network provider initially assisted Elizabeth to start her new career, happily arranging training for the Aged Care Certificate after she expressed interest in the field. Within days, she was booked into a six week course that provided great, practical experience.

Shortly after the end of the course, Elizabeth found a rewarding position in a low-care hostel facility. “I love it,” Elizabeth said. “I wish I knew before that I could do a job like this.”

After initially starting on a casual basis, Elizabeth worked casually, then part-time and finally full time. Almost twelve months on, Elizabeth is quickly progressing in her new career. She is still working for the same employer, has had Acting Supervisor experience and has also worked in another area of community aged care. She is currently progressing her skills into a Certificate 4 WorkPlace Assessor as part of her career development.

With Elizabeth’s interest and dedication, she has begun a new career in a field she had not previously considered. Elizabeth sums it up, “Unless one tries, you never know”.
