Before joining the Jobwise Self Help Group last October, Alfredo Roxas (a mature jobseeker from Cecil Hills) was fast becoming disillusioned about his ability to start a new career at the age of 59. After having a number of knockbacks, Alfredo felt that his 22 years service working at middle management level meant very little to prospective employers. It appeared to him that employers were more interested in his age than his skills and abilities!
“What I learnt at Jobwise about career opportunities and job searching techniques gave me the encouragement and support to carry on with my quest to find suitable employment and a new beginning,” said Alfredo.
The good news is that in December 2005, Alfredo started work as an Accountant working for a firm in Parramatta who valued his experience, positive attitude and enthusiasm. Alfredo has now been working full time for six months and is responsible for a team of 4 staff.
To quote Alfredo “Never give up and always think positive. Don’t be afraid to learn new skills. Relish challenges, changes and new technology. I’m enjoying my new job and definitely feeling younger than my real age. More than ever, I believe in the old cliché that ‘AGE DOESN'T REALLY MATTER’"
