20/12/06 - Age Management Training

Dynamic and unprecedented changes are occurring in Australia’s workforce. The available workers are growing older and there are fewer younger workers entering the market.

The solution lies in the ability of employers to attract and retain experienced workers longer in order to provide sufficient talent for their business in the future.

In today's tight labour market Australian employers need to create work environments that enable experienced workers to remain motivated, engaged and productive longer, while at the same time develop and retain younger workers in an increasingly competitive market.

AIM has been contracted by the Department of Employment & Workplace Relations (DEWR) to implement a national program to train 335 qualified trainers on how to deliver Age Management Training for employers and employees.

The 1 day Age Management Training programs are designed to give qualified trainers the skills to assist organisations to implement policies and practices to increase their attraction and retention of mature age workers, and to help experienced workers plan and implement a phased retirement.

Trainers will be trained by AIM to deliver two workshops;

  1. A Team Leader workshop for managers and team leaders, designed to provide practical solutions and a working framework to help attract and retain experienced workers.

  2. An Experienced Worker workshop for experienced workers provides practical help to review their work life goals, plan for a phased retirement and work with their employers to make the best use of their knowledge and experience.

In commenting on the program Dr Jennifer Alexander, Chief Executive Officer of AIM NSW & ACT said “AIM is delighted to have the opportunity to work with the Government on this issue of national importance. Valuing talent of all ages is paramount to the future social and economic health of Australia.”

The Age Management Training programs for qualified trainers will commence in early 2007.
