31/8/07 - Queensland Jobs Expo - A Resounding Success!

The Wise Workforce Jobs and Training Expo 2007, an initiative of community group the Moreton Bay Coast and Country Area Consultative Committee (ACC), was held on July 12 at the Strathpine Community Centre.

The aim of the event was to connect job seekers aged 45 and over with local ‘mature age friendly’ businesses.

The event attracted over 850 mature age job seekers and featured over 300 job vacancies, 12 workshops and 30 trade stands (including a mix of state and federal government, training organisations and community groups) which provided jobseekers with comprehensive information on programmes, resources, support and training options relevant to mature age job seekers.

Over 300 job vacancies were posted on the 'careers wall' or were available through trade stands, with a number of employers opting to have their own stands so they could field enquiries from job seekers immediately.

The expo also featured:

  • info on training options
  • programs, resources and support for the mature-aged
  • workshops on topics relevant to job seeking
  • health and lifestyle info and activities
  • prizes and giveaways
  • entertainment and inspiration
  • free buses to transport job seekers from Redcliffe and Caboolture.

The event was supported by Pine Rivers Shire Council and Brisbane North Institute of TAFE.
